FAQ’s

How long does a class/course last?

Our classes last for 1 hour.

What if I miss a class?

No problem, all our classes start with a 10 minute revision of the previous weeks work and our classes build on each other.

What about payment?

Either with cash, or via bank transfer.

Do I need a partner?

No! Many people come alone. Some bring a partner. Some come with a friend or a group of friends. Argentine tango is a social dance; expect to dance with a variety of partners. You will find plenty of people to dance with during classes, practicas, or milongas.

During classes we typically rotate partners. This is the best way to learn tango, by changing partners you will have the opportunity to dance with a variety of partners making you more flexible and more skilled to different l styles of partner.

We understand that some people might be more comfortable not rotating initially.  If you come with a partner and wish not to rotate, please let us know before class.

What kind of clothing?

The classes are relaxed and informal. Wear something comfortable so you can move about easily.

Do I need special shoes?

You don’t need special dance shoes, but wear shoes with smooth (e.g. leather) soles rather than soles which grip. Women can wear either heels or flat shoes (whichever you find most comfortable).

What can I expect from a first class?

All our classes are open level for both members and non-members. Because our classes are focused on technique rather than a choreographed routine, anyone can join our classes at any time.

Minimum/maximum age?

Our normal classes are for those aged over 18 years and there is no upper age limit …. if you can walk you can dance, it’s as simple as that.

ATH encourages a warm and friendly social scene and we have a broad spectrum of people, so take a chance and enjoy the dance!

Refunds / Cancellation

Please note that as we have to book studio/venue space as well as teachers time, licenses and insurance for the course duration we can not offer a refund after purchase unless its up to 48hours before the first lesson. In this instance a full refund will be issued.

“I’ve seen tango on ‘Strictly’ but I could never do all those kicks and lifts, could I still learn to dance tango?”

Yes! The version of tango shown on ‘Strictly’ is highly choreographed, designed to be dramatic and impressive with kicks, lifts and all sorts of repertoire designed for show dancing. Authentic Argentine Tango is a social dance for the pleasure of the dancing couple and while it can be lovely to watch it is totally unsuitable for a social dancefloor, but the focus for the couple is on the interaction with each other,  the music and other couples on the dance floor.
